Erin Oban

Director of Community Engagement, Central Regional Education Association

Erin Oban grew up in a farm family in the heart of oil country in Ray, North Dakota. She has made Bismarck, North Dakota, her home since attending and graduating from the University of Mary with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education. Oban has spent her professional career as a middle school teacher, in nonprofit management, and in politics and government; she currently works as the Director of Community Engagement with the Central Regional Education Association. She was elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018 to represent central Bismarck’s District 35 in the North Dakota State Senate. While focusing on building relationships, working collaboratively and engaging in respectful dialogue, Oban has become a respected legislator and an effective leader on education policy and issues impacting working families and the underserved. She remains active in her state and community by serving on the board of directors for the F5 Project, Designer Genes of North Dakota and YouthWorks, all nonprofit organizations that serve and assist individuals coming out of incarceration; families of and individuals with Down syndrome; and homeless, at-risk, and runaway youth, respectively. Oban also serves on the advisory boards of the Adult Learning Center and the Nurse-Family Partnership and sings and plays piano in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church’s Celebrate band. Her most valuable and challenging work is being a mom, raising her strong, sensitive and sweet 3-year-old son, Evin, alongside her husband, Chad, the Executive Director of North Dakota United.
